What do you think about this story in humanities ? “ a rose for emily” a rose for emily was written by william faulkner. it was published april, 1930. william faulkner also wrote plays, novels, screenplays, poetry, and essays. this story showed many assumptions that the town had about emily and they were all wrong. i fell miss emily had a void of love. she lost her lover a tried to keep him for herself after he died. the hair left on the pillow never to her dead lover indicates she laid next to him. it was her way of filling that empty void. the town would have been able to miss emily, if they would have confronted her instead of leaving her alone because they felt sorry for her. this short story was great to read, it kept me wanting to continue to read. the story begins with the funeral of miss emily and talks about nobody being at her house within the last 10 years. the town was curious to see miss emily’s house after her burial. it then works backwards. it explains how the town had stopped billing her for taxes in an old arrangement, but the previous town people didn’t agree with that and continued to try to get her to pay her taxes. miss emily was not budging. she kept stating she owes no taxes. it goes on to talk about the town’s people noticing a terrible smell coming from her house. people in the town wanted something done and the smell to go away, but authorities didn’t want to bother miss emily about this. they fixed the problem in the middle of the night by sprinkling lime around the house. years before her father dies and the town’s people felt sorry for her. he left her with the house, but no money. it took her 3 days to admit her father’s death. it was assumed she couldn’t let go of her father. not long after her died, miss emily starting dating homer barron who was known to not be the marrying type. after family come to intervene the relationship, emily is seen buying poison and it’s assumed she will kill herself. she then is spotted buying men’s clothes and items. her lover was never seen again by the town. it is assumed he left and the town rarely sees miss emily, until her funeral. after her burial is when the town walks through her house and discovers homer.
