So the king thought long and hard about some means of getting perseus out of the way, for he knew that, if the boy were gone, the king could easily do what he liked with the mother. of the three, the most terrible was medusa and the task that the king had thought of giving perseus was nothing less than cutting off medusa's head, snakes and all. since merely looking at medusa would turn perseus to stone, and he could not very well cut off her head without looking at her, the king was pretty safe in thinking that this was an adventure from which perseus would never return. so he sent for the young man, and when perseus stood before him, the king began to praise his boldness and courage, which, he said, had been the talk of the island. perseus, of course, was flattered by these words of praise and replied, "in-deed, o king, i think there is no task from which i would shrink in fear." the king was delighted to hear this, and he said, "if i thought that my boy, i would let you undertake a task that i am saving for the bravest man in my kingdom." now, after poor perseus left the palace, he began to think over his promise, and somehow the plan did not seem nearly so pleasant nor so easy as it had when he was talking with the king. now perseus was full of rage, and he hastened to the palace at once to demand his mother's freedom. perseus knew that he owed his success to the that mercury and the other gods had given him, and he never forgot the debt he owed them. in order to prove that he had killed the terrible medusa, perseus was required to bring back the head of the mon-ster, for that was its most vital part.

Which line in this excerpt from the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald contains a simile? about half way between west egg and new york the motor-road hastily joins the railroad and runs beside it for a quarter of a mile, so as to shrink away from a certain desolate area of land. this is a valley of ashes—a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air. occasionally a line of grey cars crawls along an invisible track, gives out a ghastly creak and comes to rest, and immediately the ash-grey men swarm up with leaden spades and stir up an impenetrable cloud which screens their obscure operations from your sight.

Which part of the story shows how kiara and tanya's differences affect their friendship? kiara and tanya were the best of friends. when they were 10 years old, they always went everywhere together. all their friends knew that if they found one of them, they would find the other. anyone who didn't know them thought that they were twins because both kiara and tanya had long, silky red hair and pale complexions. they were even similar in height and build. they were more like sisters than friends. but as similar as they were in appearance, they were just as different when it came to their personalities. this difference didn't affect their friendship, at least not for a long time. kiara always got out and participated in activities and competitions. tanya was happiest when reading a book at home. kiara was outgoing and talkative. tanya was quiet and shy. kiara was popular, and people were drawn to her because of her ability to make quick friends. tanya hardly had any friends besides kiara. as they grew older, kiara managed to make a large group of friends. tanya, on the other hand, still remained shy and reserved. this difference in their personalities eventually caused a rift between the two friends. tanya would refuse invitations to parties and movies that kiara invited her to. she just didn't want to hang out with people she didn't know that well. kiara couldn't understand why. she thought tanya disliked her friends. eventually, kiara and tanya both realized that they had outgrown one another. they still remained friends, but they were not as close as they once had been.
