Exposition: this is the introduction of the story. Usually, here the writer introduces the characters, the setting, the basic plot, etc.

Rising action: this is where the story starts developing a bit more. At this point, some events and conflicts happen that move the story forward.

Climax: this is the turning point, the most central part of a story. It is when some of the most important events happen that decide the subsequent course of the story.

Falling action: this is where things slowly start to unfold and get resolved. The high emotions die down and characters resolve their issues.

Resolution: this is the end of the story.
