Similarity: In the both story both Goodman and Winkle went to a journy. Young Goodman took a look at the life of man after venturing into woods in order to complete some unknown message. In his journy he met an old man with some cheerful thing.

Rip van winkle went out from home in order to get rid of his wife yelling at him. He also met some people who were drinking and cheering.

Difference: Rip van winkle started to drink with people and fall asleep.When he woke up he passed 20 years. But Young Goodman saw the witch trial which was horrible and h cried to heaven for salvation of this place.Soon this scene disappeared.
