Read the excerpt from an editorial.

state lawmakers are considering overturning a law that forbids the sale of lottery tickets on sundays. proponents of the bill claim that the reason for the potential change is a result of consumer demand. these "state leaders” clearly have no concept of how to maintain family values. playing the lottery is just as despicable as gambling in a casino and should be outlawed altogether.

which detail reveals the writer’s purpose?

using first-person pronouns shows that the writer has strong opinions against the lottery.

placing “state leaders” in quotation marks indicates that the writer is mocking the lawmakers.

stating the reason for the bill highlights the writer’s anger over the potential change.

comparing the lottery to gambling establishes factual evidence to back the writer’s opinion.

Plz me asap select the correct text in the passage. which two sentences in the passage introduce counterarguments to the speaker’s position in favor of recycling? we only have a limited number of resources to serve humans around the globe. by recycling and reusing the resources we have, we can preserve what untouched natural resources we have while extending the life of the resources we’re currently using. admittedly, we cannot reuse or recycle all of the materials we use in our daily lives. some materials are not recyclable, such as certain food containers. others items are not biodegradable regardless of what we reuse them for, and that can create problems in the long run. my opponent would use these limitations of our ability to recycle to counter my points about the materials we can recycle. however, this is not an “all or nothing” scenario. we should reuse and recycle the materials that we can and try our best not to buy materials and products that can’t be reused or recycled. by doing our part and encouraging others to do their part, we can increase our chances of conserving our remaining natural and manmade resources over time.

Which line from the story of my life by helen keller is an example of a simile? during the whole trip i did not have one fit of temper, there were so many things to keep my mind and fingers busy. i was like that ship before my education began, only i was without compass or sounding-line, and had no way of knowing how near the harbour was. one day, while i was playing with my new doll, miss sullivan put my big rag doll into my lap also, spelled "d-o-l-l" and tried to make me understand that "d-o-l-l" applied to both. child as i was, i at once felt the tenderness and sympathy which endeared dr. bell to so many hearts, as his wonderful achievements enlist their admiration.
