that floats on high o'er vales and hills,
when all at once i saw a crowd,
a host, of golden daffodils;

fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

they stretched in never-ending line

out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

wordsworth uses the word "dance" throughout his poem. in a paragraph of 3-5 sentences, analyze how the poet uses "dance" in stanzas 3 and 4. who is dancing in these two stanzas? in each instance, what does the use of the word "dance" reveal about wordsworth's view of nature?

In stanza three the dancing is performed by the waves of the lake where the golden daffodils are also dancing. In Stanza four it is the narrator’s heart that dances with the daffodils and with nature.

The use of the word “dance” is very kinetic. Dance is movement, the movement of life. Only dead things don’t move. The use of the word dance means that nature is life and that such life is to be preserved. The fact that the narrator’s heart “dances” as he sees the daffodils reveals that nature has a positive effect on humans and that humans should be sensitive to nature’s beauty. The fact that the waves are also dancing, reveals that nature can also be destructive, just like waves but that as humans we should appreciate their intrinsic beauty.  

Wordsworth , a romantic XVIII poet, uses personification in both cases. First, he says that the waves  danced next to the daffodils. He means that the waves moved in his memory. Secondly, he says that his heart dances; his heart is so happy with the memory of the beauty from nature that it beats happily. The word "dance" reveals that Wordsworth thinks that nature is the source of inspiration for a poet. There seems to be music in nature and it makes the poet's heart move to that happy tune.
