He also believes that changes in societies only bring about dangers. Furthermore, Warner thinks that giving up the lottery would result in general starvation in the town. For the old man, it is highly important to keep the tradition since it has always been there. This is made clearer in the quotation from paragraph 32. In other words, Warner blindly accepts a tradition, ignoring how violent it actually is, just because he is scared of changes. However, the other inhabitants also fear changes, in that way, Old Man Warner represents everyone in the town.
