Review the definitions of similes and metaphors. then try your hand at writing two of each. start by thinking of the two things you want to compare, and then write each type of figurative language. how do these comparisons describe what you’re writing about? keep your journal or computer nearby. as you read, ask yourself these questions, and write the answers in your journal: (1) what do i notice most in the poem? (2) what do i like most? least? (3) what questions do i have? (4) what pictures come to mind from the words the author (poet) uses?
