How does the structure of "gumption" differ from that of "to build a fire"?

The style of a piece of writing has to do with the words that the author chooses and how he or she puts them together, as well as how the story is structured. In “Gumption,” the descriptive structure allows for full development of Clara’s voice, and helps to establish her viewpoint on the importance of “gumption.” The dialect and slang used by the characters create a realistic context for the story. In “To Build a Fire,” the style is revealed through the sequential structure of the story. As the events unfold, the distant, matter-of-fact style of the narrator creates feelings of tension, or suspense, in the reader.
