The RACE technique stands for Restate, Answer, Cite and Explain. Even though it is a quite simplistic technique, it is tremendously useful, because it help students to answer mostly literature questions in a more thoroughly manner. It also helps student analyze and think more critically about what they need to answer.

By making the students restate the answer they practice their critical thinking because they need to decide in what way the question could be rephrase. At the answering stage students need to analyze the evidence to see what part can best offer a response to the question.
