Why is the setting important to the story? only the british people are kindly to mongooses, so the story could not happen anywhere else. the animals are particular to one location, so the story would be different if it occurred elsewhere. the setting is not important and has little influence on the story overall. it could only occur in the 1900s because british people do not live in india anymore.
