The first statement is incorrect. A compare and contrast essay does not involve taking something apart and looking at its features. In my opinion, this would more represent an observational essay or even possibly an experiment.

The second statement could be correct because it matches a close enough definition of what a compare and contrast essay it. A compare and contrast essay does involve detecting a relationship between, usually, two things.

The third option is also incorrect because it it states to compare two things that are basically the same. This is not the correct answer because this is not what you do with a compare and contrast essay. Sure, you do find differences, but you also find similarity's.

The fourth option is also incorrect because this would be more of a descriptive essay.

So, this means that the answer to this question is  b )  to draw a relationship between two or more like ideas.
