Consider a cylinder filled with a CPG of known properties and known initial conditions (V1, T1, P1). The piston is gradually retracted until the volume is twice the initial volume. The piston is then rapidly forced down (irreversibly compressed) to the original volume. a. The final pressure and temperature will be either greater than, less than, or equal to, the initial pressure and temperature. Prove which it is (do not just give a qualitative discussion).
b. How will the work done in expanding the gas compare to the work done in irreversibly compressing it?
