A solar-power-tower plant considered in Tucson, Arizona. Heliostat with a total area of 80,000 m^2 are to be used to reflect a solar radiation into a receiver. When the solar irradiation is 950 W/m^2 on any given day, steam is produced at 2 MPa and 400C at a rate of 20 kg/s. This steam is expanded in a turbine to 20 kPa pressure. The isentropic efficiency of the turbine is 85 percent. The average annual irradiation in Tucson is 20.44 MJ/m^2. Required:
a. Determine the power output and the thermal efficiency of the plant when the solar radiation is 950W/m.
b. How much electricity can be produced per year if the average thermal efficiency is 15 percent and the generator efficiency is 96 percent?

Amass of 1.5 kg of air at 120 kpa and 24°c is contained in a gas-tight, frictionless piston-cylinder device. the air is now compressed to a final pressure of 720 kpa. during the process, heat is transferred from the air such that the temperature inside the cylinder remains constant. calculate the boundary work input during this process.

Water in a partially filled large tank is to be supplied to the roof top, which is 8 m above the water level in the tank, through a 2.2-cm-internal-diameter pipe by maintaining a constant air pressure of 300 kpa (gage) in the tank. if the head loss in the piping is 2 m of water, determine the discharge rate of the supply of water to the roof top in liters per second.
