C. In a high-quality coaxial cable, the power drops by a factor of 10 approximately every 3 km. If the original signal power is 0.55 W (=5.5 x 10-1), how far will a signal
be transmitted before the power is attenuated to 55 uW?
Include a table showing the signal power (in W) versus distance in 3 km intervals
(like Table 1.2 in Section 1.4.4) as part of your answer.
If optical fibre is used instead of the coaxial cable, briefly explain how you would
expect the above calculated distance value to change (see Section 1.4.4).
You are not required to include another table in answering this last part of part c.

Abrake has a normal braking torque of 2.8 kip in and heat-dissipating cast-iron surfaces whose mass is 40 lbm. suppose a load is brought to rest in 8.0 s from an initial angular speed of 1600 rev/min using the normal braking torque; estimate the temperature rise of the heat dissipating surfaces.

A-mn has a cubic structure with a0 0.8931 nm and a density of 7.47 g/cm3. b-mn has a different cubic structure, with a0 0.6326 nm and a density of 7.26 g/cm3. the atomic weight of manganese is 54.938 g/mol and the atomic radius is 0.112 nm. determine the percent volume change that would occur if a-mn transforms to b-mn.

Asolid cylinder is concentric with a straight pipe. the cylinder is 0.5 m long and has an outside diameter of 8 cm. the pipe has an inside diameter of 8.5 cm. the annulus between the cylinder ad the pipe contains stationary oil. the oil has a specific gravity of 0.92 and a kinematic viscosity of 5.57 x 10-4 m2/s. most nearly, what is the force needed to move the cylinder along the pipe at a constant velocity of 1 m/s?

Water vapor initially at 10 bar and 400 °c is contained within a piston-cylinder assembly. the water lost heat to the surrounding according to isochoric (iso-volumetric) process until its temperature is 150 °c. the water is then condensed isothermally to saturated liquid. for the water as a system, calculate the work in kj/kg
