A biotechnology company produces an antibiotic by growing fungi in a water suspension. The fungi cells are removed by filtration, then the filtrate goes into a purification step. The cells are 1.5 x 10-5 m in diameter and they compose 0.8% of the growth broth volume. Water at 25 C (p = 1,000 kg/m?; u = 0.001 kg/m-s) passes through a filter that is 1 m² in area. The pump delivering the liquid broth to the filter pumps at a constant flow rate of 1 L/min, but can only hold a maximum pressure of 55,000 Pa Calculate the total volume (L) that can be filtered before cleaning and the time it takes (min). Assume cake porosity to be a = 0.35.

Water vapor initially at 10 bar and 400 °c is contained within a piston-cylinder assembly. the water lost heat to the surrounding according to isochoric (iso-volumetric) process until its temperature is 150 °c. the water is then condensed isothermally to saturated liquid. for the water as a system, calculate the work in kj/kg
