Suppose you are working as HVAC Engineers in a Construction company. As one of your job tasks you have a design a heating system
for a swimming pool. The dimensions of the swimming pool are 30
Length x 20 Width x 2 Depth all in meter. As per the design requirement,
the heating system need to raise the water temperature of the swimming
pool from 20 °C to 30 °C in 3 hours. As shown in figure below, the
outdoor design conditions allow heat loss from the water surface to air
at the rate of 960 W/m2 but the heat must be able to maintain water
temperature at the design temperature of 30 °C. The base and walls of
the swimming are made of such material that we can neglect the heat
losses to the ground. The heater in question is operating with a natural
gas furnace which has efficiency of 80%. What will be your
recommendation for the heater size (in kW) for the swimming pool in
question.
Hint: Total Heat Transfer is QT = Q1
+ Q2 + Q3
