DOUBLE INTEGRATION METHOD A consultancy firm is designing a canopy as shown below in Q. 1. a, to provide shelter for the entrance of a building. The roof consists of a plain lightweight concrete cast over a steel decking and is placed on Universal Beams (UB). The roof is subjected to a live load caused by drifting snowed which is assumed to be trapezoidal. The idealized beam considering the lightweight concrete, steel decking and snow are shown in Q. 2. b. The initial beam selected has a moment of inertia, =2841 4, and a modulus of elasticity, =200 . Design codes specify the maximum deflection should not exceed Δ=/ where is the span of the beam in mm. Determine whether the maximum deflection of the beam is less than the permissible deflection. If it is more than the permissible deflection recommend a minimum moment of inertia in cm4 that will meet the design codes specifications.

Apump is used to circulate hot water in a home heating system. water enters the well-insulated pump operating at steady state at a rate of 0.42 gal/min. the inlet pressure and temperature are 14.7 lbf/in.2, and 180°f, respectively; at the exit the pressure is 60 lbf/in.2 the pump requires 1/15 hp of power input. water can be modeled as an incompressible substance with constant density of 60.58 lb/ft3 and constant specific heat of 1 btu/lb or. neglecting kinetic and potential energy effects, determine the temperature change, in °r, as the water flows through the pump.
