An undivided multi-lane highway has two lanes in each direction and carries a traffic volume of 2000 veh/hour. There are no trucks, RVs, or buses on this route. The drivers are all familiar with this road. The posted speed limit for this highway is 55 mph and there are 15 access points per mile. The lane width is 12 ft, the right shoulder clearance is 4 ft, and the peak hour factor is 0.80. (a) Find the LOS for this segment. [5 points]
(b) Suppose that in ten years time, the traffic volume for this highway has doubled. How many lanes should be added to this highway to keep the same LOS as you find in part (a) assuming all other factors are not changed?

Apump is used to circulate hot water in a home heating system. water enters the well-insulated pump operating at steady state at a rate of 0.42 gal/min. the inlet pressure and temperature are 14.7 lbf/in.2, and 180°f, respectively; at the exit the pressure is 60 lbf/in.2 the pump requires 1/15 hp of power input. water can be modeled as an incompressible substance with constant density of 60.58 lb/ft3 and constant specific heat of 1 btu/lb or. neglecting kinetic and potential energy effects, determine the temperature change, in °r, as the water flows through the pump.
