Delicious Catering Services (DCS) has won a contract to provide catering services to two mining companies: Mine A and Mine B Management of DCS is faced with the challenge of deciding the mix of two modes of transporting foodstuff to the two mines. The rwo modes of transport are mini-bus and tuck. A truck transport services compeny has offered to make up to 10 truck tips per month at a cost of $2,500 and $2,000 per inp to Mine A and Mine B respectively. There are a number of mini-bus services available which can offer up to 24 inps per month at a cost of $1.200 per trip and $1,000 pes trip to Mine A and Mine B respecuvely. Each truck can carry 4 tonnes of foodstuff per inp and each mini-bus can carry 2 tonnes per trip Provision of catering services at the mines is such that at least 48 tonnes of foodstuff are

required per month and the food stuff requ rement at Mine B is at most 2/3 that at Mine A per month, Also the foodstuff delivered monthly to Mine A should be at least 8 tonnes more thart

that delivered at Mine B

Due to mechanical breakdowns and the effect of weather, only 80% and 85% of trucks arrive

on time to deliver foodstuff at Mine A and B respectively However mimi-buses are more Telrable with 90% and 95% armving on time at Mine A and Mine B respectively. DCS has set

a standard that at jeast 90% of all trips must arrive on ume no matter the mix of mode of

transport chosen DCS has allocated a monthly budget of up to $18,000 and $12,000 for

transportation to Mine A and Mine B respectively. Management of DCS desires to know the

mix of trips of the two modes of transport to Mines A and B at the minimum monthly cost. mer

Along 8-cm diameter steam pipe whose external surface temperature is 900c connects two buildings. the pipe is exposed to ambient air at 70c with a wind speed of 50 km/hr blowing across the pipe. determine the heat loss from the pipe per unit length. (b) air at 500c enters a section of a rectangular duct (15 cm x 20 cm) at an average velocity of 7 m/s. if the walls of the duct are maintained at 100c. a) the length of the tube for an exit temperature of the air to be 40 0c. b)the rate of heat transfer from the air. c) the fan power needed to overcome the pressure drop in this section of the duct.
