We have a hot tub that contains 450 gallons of water. We added too much chlorine and want to add water from our hose to dilute the chlorine. Initially the concentration of chlorine is 10 mg/L. The water in the hose contains a concentration of chlorine equal to 0.5 mg/L. We allow water to drain out of the bottom while we add the water to maintain a constant height of water. The water leaves the hose at 1 gallon per minute. a. Write a material balance on the chlorine in the hot tub.
b. What is the concentration of the chlorine at steady-state? (when time is at infinity)
c. What is the concentration of chlorine after 100 minutes? 1000 minutes?
d. Graph the concentration of chlorine as a function of time.
e. When will the concentration of chlorine be equal to 1.5 mg/L? 0.6 mg/L?

Apump is used to circulate hot water in a home heating system. water enters the well-insulated pump operating at steady state at a rate of 0.42 gal/min. the inlet pressure and temperature are 14.7 lbf/in.2, and 180°f, respectively; at the exit the pressure is 60 lbf/in.2 the pump requires 1/15 hp of power input. water can be modeled as an incompressible substance with constant density of 60.58 lb/ft3 and constant specific heat of 1 btu/lb or. neglecting kinetic and potential energy effects, determine the temperature change, in °r, as the water flows through the pump.
