A rigid tank having a volume of 0.11 m3 initially contains water as a two-phase liquid-vapor mixture at 0.08 bar and a quality of 2%. The water is heated in two stages: Stage1: Constant-volume heating until the pressure is 0.5 bar.
Stage 2: Continued heating while saturated water vapor is slowly withdrawn from the tank at a constant pressure of 0.5 bar. Heating ceases when all the water remaining in the tank is saturated vapor at 0.5 bar.

Required:
For the water, evaluate the heat transfer, in kJ, for each stage of heating. Ignore kinetic and potential energy effects.

Air enters a horizontal, constant-diameter heating duct operating at steady state at 290 k, 1 bar, with a volumetric flow rate of 0.25 m°/s, and exits at 325 k, 0.95 bar. the flow area is 0.04 m2. assuming the ideal gas model with k = 1.4 for the air, determine (a) the velocity at the inlet and exit, each in m/s, and (c) the rate of heat transfer, in kw flow rate, in kg/s, (b) the mass kg 0.3

On solidification from a melt, the polymer polyethylene forms a semi-crystalline spherulite structure. (i) sketch an individual spherulite and label the amorphous and crystalline regions. (ii) draw a schematic to show the changes in specific volume with temperature during cooling from the melt, comparing it to the theoretical extremes of fully crystalline and fully amorphous (indicate tm and tg)
