2. A one-story building is to be supported by spread footings on a soil profile shown below. The profile is obtained by soil exploration done to a depth of 9 m, using a rotary drill. SPT is done at every 1.0 m and the field N values are corrected to N60. (a) Is this exploration depth sufficient for analyzing the foundation-soil interaction of the proposed building? (5%) (b) Correct the N60 values to (N1)60 and determine the  (angle of internal friction) of sand. (10%) (c) Find Es (stiffness modulus) and predict elastic settlement within a time span of 10 years. (15%) (d) Determine whether the clay is normally consolidated (NC) or over-consolidated (OC). (5%) (e) Predict the total settlement and state if safe provided the tolerable limit is 25 mm (You may use 2:1 Method for  determination. Cc=0.009 (LL-10) and if required take Cr= 1/10 Cc) (15%) (f) Determine the allowable bearing capacity using Terzaghi's equation. Is the selected footing size safe? (15%)

Air flows over a heated plate àt a velocity of 50m/s. the local skin factor coefficient at a point on a plate is 0.004. estimate the local heat transfer coefficient at this point. the following property data for air are given: density = 0.88kg/m3 , viscosity 2.286 x 10 ^-5 kgm/s , k = 0.035w/mk ,cp = 1.001kj/kgk. use colburn reynolds analogy.

Liquid flows at steady state at a rate of 2 lb/'s through a pump, which operates to raise the elevation of the liquid 100 ft from control volume inlet to exit. the liquid specific enthalpy at the inlet is 40.09 btu/lb and at the exit is 40.94 btub. the pump requires 3 btu/s of power to operate. if kinetic energy effects are negligible and gravitational acceleration is 32.174 tt/s, the heat transfer rate associated with this steady state process is most closely 1)-2,02 btu/s from the liquid to the surroundings 2)-3.98 btu/s from the surroundings to the liquid. 3)-4.96 btu/s from the surroundings to the liquid. 4)-1.04 btu/s from the liquid to the surroundings.
