A two-stage cascade refrigeration cycle is to operate with propane as the working fluid in the upper cycle and ethylene as the working fluid in the lower cycle. Heat is exchanged between the two cycles with ethylene at 224 K on its side and a 5 C approach temperature. The evaporator on the ethylene side operates at 182 K. The propane entering the condenser operates at 71 C and exits at 41 C. Estimate the Carnot COP for this cycle.
