Design a ventilation system, in a college campus, that serves two lecture classrooms, one teacher officeand one computer lab. It is a VAV system with multiple zones, and the AHU will re-circulate a part of return air and set at minimum outdoor air (except in economizer mode). Floor supply diffusers were selected for cooling the spaces with ceiling return grills. It is displacement ventilation with low supply velocity. All rooms are internal zones (no external walls or windows) Heating will not be needed. The teachers and students are moving around the campus with a total number of 200.

Awall of 0.5m thickness is to be constructed from a material which has average thermal conductivity of 1.4 w/mk. the wall is to be insulated with a material having an average thermal conductivity of 0.35 w/mk so that heat loss per square meter shall not exceed 1450 w. assume inner wall surface temperature of 1200°c and outer surface temperature of the insulation to be 15°c. calculate the thickness of insulation required.

Air (c-1.006 kj/kg. k, r-0.287 kj/kg. k) enters a nozzle steadily at 280 kpa and 77°c with a velocity of 50 m/s and exits at 85 kpa and 320 m/s. the heat losses from the nozzle to the surrounding medium at 20°c are estimated to be 3.2 kj/kg. determine (a) the exit temperature and (b) the total entropy change for this process. solve this problem using constant specific heats.
