An excavator ($300/hour) with a 4 cubic yard bucket loads trucks ($200/hour each).Trucks carry 18 cubic yards. Each cycle of the excavator is 30 seconds (4 yd3 each 30
seconds). We can either load the truck full (18 yd3) in 5 cycles or partially full (16 yd3) in 4 cycles. Assume 100% productive (60 minutes/60 minutes)In either case, the truck takes 6.5 minutes to travel, dump and return.
a. Option 1: 5 cycles of the excavator, 18 yd3 in the truck.
i. Determine the number of trucks to balance the operation, to 1 decimal place
ii. Round the number of trucks up, determine the productivity in yd3/hour
iii. Determine the cost per hour (round to nearest dollar) and cost per cubic yard(round to nearest cent/yd3) to load and haul the soil.
b Option 2: 4 cycles of the excavator, 16 yd3 in the truck.
i. Determine the number of trucks to balance the operation, to 2 decimal places
ii. Round the number of trucks up, determine the productivity in yd3/hour
iii. Determine the cost per hour and cost per cubic yard to load and haul the soil
