You install a pumping well into a confined aquifer with a transmissivity, T = 7.0 x 10⁻³ m²/s, and storativity, S = 5.0 x 10⁻⁴ and operate it at a pumping rate of 9.2 x 10^⁻³ m³/s. To test its performance you install a monitoring well 5 m away from the pumping well and notice the observed drawdown 6 hours into your pumping scheme does not match theoretical predictions. You investigate the site and notice a stream 15 m away from your pumping well that is likely recharging your aquifer.
(a) Did your initial prediction of drawdown over- or under- predict the observed drawdown in the monitoring well?
(b) Using the principle of superposition, estimate a more realistic prediction of drawdown in the monitoring well (assume that the monitoring well is located in between the pumping well and the stream).
