The data for characteristic curves of a variable-speed pump supplied by a manufacturer are given below. Draw the modified curve and H-Q curve for two pumps operating in parallel. Also draw the system head curves. Use the following data:

Piping, valves, fitting, and specials from wet well to common header are given bellow:

Pipe size= 46 cm
Pipe straight length is short and negligible
Two 46-cm gate valves, K= 0.19
One 46-cm 90∘elbows, K= 0.30
Two 46-cm to 31 cm reducers, K= 0.25
One 46-cm check valve, K=2.5
One 46-cm tee, K=1.80
One 62-cm entrance suction bell, K= 0.04

Piping, valves, fitting, and specials from common header to discharge are given bellow:

Pipe size= 76 cm
Pipe straight length= 65 m, C= 100
Two 76-cm 90∘elbows, K= 0.30
Two 76-cm 45∘elbows, K= 0.20
One Venturi meter with throat diameter of 38 cm, k= 0.14
One 76-cm plug valve, K= 1.00
One 76-cm Wye branch, K= 1.38
The pump volute elevation is 300.00 m. Maximum and minimum water surface elevation in the wet well are 303.00 and 301.00 m, respectively. The water surface elevation in the discharge unit is 315.00 m. The maximum and minimum station discharges are 0.65 and 0.20 m3/s. Determine:

a. Operating head and capacity of the pump station when both pumps are operating.
b. Operating head and discharge of each pump.
c. Corresponding head and discharge given on the manufacturer’s head-capacity curve.

Pump Characteristic Curve Data Supplied by the Manufacturer

Air is to be cooled in the evaporator section of a refrigerator by passing it over a bank of 0.8-cm-outer-diameter and 0.4-m-long tubes inside which the refrigerant is evaporating at -20°c. air approaches the tube bank in the normal direction at 0°c and 1 atm with a mean velocity of 4 m/s. the tubes are arranged in-line with longitudinal and transverse pitches of sl- st 1.5 cm. there are 30 rows in the flow direction with 15 tubes in each row. determine (a) the refrigeration capacity of this system and (b) pressure drop across the tube bank. evaluate the air properties at an assumed mean temperature of -5°c and 1 atm. is this a good assumption?
