The air-handling system for a large indoor sky diving (vertical) wind tunnel has a fan at the inlet (bottom), and a test section (where the users fly) with a circular crosssection of 5.5 m diameter. The designers want to achieve a 200 km/hr wind speed, with the air in the test-section nominally at 22 ÂșC and 1.0 bar. How much air (mass flow rate) will the fan that runs the wind tunnel have to supply to meet these conditions? If the pressure of the air at the exit of the wind tunnel is 0.2 psi lower than the pressure in the test section, what would be the air velocity at the exit, assuming the air temperature remained at 22 ÂșC?

Refrigerant 134a enters an insulated compressor operating at steady state as saturated vapor at -26°c with a volumetric flow rate of 0.18 m3/s. refrigerant exits at 9 bar, 70°c. changes in kinetic and potential energy from inlet to exit can be ignored. determine the volumetric flow rate at the exit, in m3/s, and the compressor power, in kw.

Consider airflow over a flat plate of length l = 1.5 m under conditions for which transition occurs at le = 0.9 m based on the critical reynolds number, re, e = 5 x 10. evaluating the thermophysical properties of air at 400 k, determine the air velocity. (hint: use the tables to find the properties of air)

Acountershaft is supported by two tapered roller bearings using indirect mounting. the radial bearing loads are 1120 lb for the left-hand bearing and 2190 lb for the right-hand bearing. the shaft rotates at 400 rpm and is to have an l10 life of 40,000 hours and an application factor of 1.4. assume ka2k 15, and find the required radial rating of each bearing
