Implement a chain drive. Let’s use a #25 chain, with a 14 tooth sprocket attached to a motor, and a 9 tooth sprocket attached to the load. Find the axle spacing that is nearest 6". Use two methods: a) Find online or estimate using Solidworks the pitch radius of each sprocket. Then calculate the axle spacing using the equations we developed in class (where we essentially treat the chain as belt, wrapping around the circumference of each sprocket). b) Find out how good the above method is by modelling in Solidworks each of the sprockets as N-sided regular polygons, with the chain stretched between them. Change the angle of the input sprocket by 1° increments over the range of configurations. I would start at the previously calculated spacing and alter it as necessary to get an appropriate chain length at each configuration. The easiest way to measure the chain length will be to extrude a solid of the chain pitch profile. Selecting the face of the solid will then give you the perimeter.

Adouble-strand no. 60 roller chain is used to transmit power between a 13-tooth driving sprocket rotating at 300 rev/min and a 52-tooth driven sprocket. a) what is the allowable horsepower of this drive? b) estimate the center-to-center distance if the chain length is 82 pitches. c) estimate the torque and bending force on the driving shaft by the chain if the actual horsepower transmitted is 30 percent less than the corrected (allowable) power.
