A Taylor-Couette apparatus consists of an inner cylinder and an outer cylinder that can rotate independently. The gap between the cylinders is filled with a Newtonian fluid. For a particular experiment at 20â—¦C, we find that when the inner cylinder is held stationary and a force of 0.985N is applied to the outer cylinder, the outer cylinder rotates at a speed of 1Hz. Find the viscosity of the fluid, assuming that the velocity profile in the gap is linear. The inner and outer cylinders have radii of 200 mm and 150 mm, respectively, and the cylinders are 300 mm long. Can you suggest which fluid is being tested?
