We often speak of the "root mean square" or rms displacement of a diffusing object in order to quantify the average distance a diffusing particle moves in a given amount of time. This rms displacement is simply given by the square root of the average of the square of the displacement. Considering again how the average of the square of the displacement varies with time in the diffusion displacement equation, if a particle, on average, diffuses 1.0 mm in one hour, how long (in hours) will it take for the particle to diffuse 9 mm (on average)

Water in a partially filled large tank is to be supplied to the roof top, which is 8 m above the water level in the tank, through a 2.2-cm-internal-diameter pipe by maintaining a constant air pressure of 300 kpa (gage) in the tank. if the head loss in the piping is 2 m of water, determine the discharge rate of the supply of water to the roof top in liters per second.

An industrial centrifugal air compressor has 34 radial blades that has no pre-whirl. the tip speed of the blades is 300 m/s, and the radial component of the air velocity at the tip is 150 m/s. air is inducted at 101.3 kpa and a stagnation temperature of 305 k. the mass flow rate is 3 kg/s. consider the power input factor to be equal to 1.04 and a stagnation temperature at the compressor exit of 370 k, if the flow is isentropic. assume cp-1005 j/kg. k. find the power input to the compressor (in kw)
