Aplant processes very long tungsten beams with a cross-section of 50-cm by 50-cm in a furnace with air temperature of 900 celsius degree and a convective heat transfer coefficient of 300 w/m^2k. the initial temperature of the beam is 27 celsius degree, and the required process temperature is 650 celsius degree. assume the tungsten properties are evaluated at the average temperature(between initial and process temperatures). the beams are suddenly exposed to furnace conditions. ignore radiation. draw a schematic and label all relevant parameters determine: a)the tungsten thermal properties(thermal conductivity, specific heat, and thermal diffusivity at the average temperature) b)the biot number c)what locations on the beam will first reach the required temperature? d)how much time is needed (in s) to reach the required temperature at the locations found in c) –that first reach required temperature? e)what will be the answer for d) is one assumes lumped heat capacity model?
