Abiomedical device is to be redesigned to reduce its cost. the cost is primarily a function of the type and amount of material used. only approved biocompatible materials can be used, and three known choices are available for the current device. the cost of each material type is also known. the shape of the device can be changed slightly, but with restrictions due to the manner in which the device interfaces with the body. three radii as well as the shape and position of two circular cutouts (lightening holes) may be modified, as needed. the new design must be as durable as the previous design, and a maximum allowable stress has been defined for each material type. in order to achieve the best design possible within a limited amount of time, an automated design optimization process will be employed. define the optimization statement in standard form in the following terms: (a) objective(s) (b) constraint(s) (c) design variables
