A local area network is an interconnection of network devices within a small geographical area, like a floor in a building, a building in a company premises, the entire company premises etc. An traditional LAN is a connection of these devices using cables.

A swing from the conventional or traditional local area network is the WLAN or wireless local area network. The WLAN is a LAN network, which does not only use cabled connections between devices, but also wireless access point with other wireless devices.
