A scientist examines unknown substance 1. It appears to be quite soft to the touch and when he tries to grind it up and place it in water, it does not dissolve. But he does find that it dissolves in hexane! He tries heating the substance and it pretty quickly melts around 180 degrees Celsius. He tries running an electric current through it and it did not conduct electricity at all. He tries to boil the liquid once he has melted it and he finds it boils quite quickly at a low boiling point. What kind of substance is it?

High-pressure liquid chromatography (hplc) is a method used in chemistry and biochemistry to purify chemical substances. the pressures used in this procedure range from around 500 kilopascals (500,000 pa) to about 60,000 kpa (60,000,000 pa). it is often convenient to know the pressure in torr. if an hplc procedure is running at a pressure of 1.03Ă—108 pa , what is its running pressure in torr?
