A student experiments with a bar magnet and paper clips. She places a paper clip on a table and moves it toward one of the magnetic poles of the magnet, measuring the point on the table at which the paper clip begins to move toward the magnet without her help. She repeats the experiment by moving the paper clip toward the other pole of the magnet, and then toward the center of the magnet. Her observations are shown.
