Methane have 4 covalent bond. One carbon form bond with 4 hydrogen bond because carbon need 4 valence electron to complete it's octet. Carbon has 4 valence electron. It need 4 electron to complete it's octet so it form bond with 4 hydrogen bond.And hydrogen has 1 valance electron so they easily complete the octet and form covalent bond.
