Explain why a protein might not function properly if some of the smaller units that bond to form the protein chain are changed.

Sample Response: Each protein folds in a certain way, and the resulting 3-D

structure of the protein affects its function. If some parts of the protein are

changed, hydrogen bonds may not form in the same place, or the polarity may

change. As a result, the protein will not fold in the same way and the 3-D structure of the protein will not be the same.
