Creating your Own Ecosystem Ecology 3rd Quarter
100 points
~Disclaimer: Please make sure that with your chosen ecosystem, you can answer all steps in full
detail~
Step 1: Identify Your Ecosystem and Describe (25 points)
β€’ What is your ecosystem?
β€’ Where is your ecosystem located? Please provide a specific location (i. e. Bryce Canyon National
Park in Utah)
β€’ What does it look like? Please provide 5-7 sentences to describe.
β€’ Please provide at least 5 pictures of your ecosystem.
β€’ Is your ecosystem a result of primary or secondary succession? Please describe how the
succession began (i. e. if your ecosystem is secondary, what major disturbance happened?)
Step 2: Identify the Biome that your Ecosystem Exists in (10 points)
β€’ Is your ecosystem in either an ocean biome, desert biome, grassland biome, forest biome, or
tundra biome? (i. e. Bryce Canyon National Park would be the desert biome)
β€’ After choosing a biome where does it classify within your biome? (i. e. Bryce Canyon could be
considered as a semi-arid, or hot/dry desert)
Step 3: Identify what exists in your ecosystem and how they interconnect (30 points)
β€’ What are the main abiotic (at least 5 please) and biotic (at least 5) factors?
β€’ Identify at least 3 different types of habits and what animal lives in them?
β€’ Provide at least 2 types of generalists and 2 types of specialists.
β€’ Provide at least 3 major food chains in your ecosystem, please be sure to identify at least one
producer, one consumer, and one decomposer in each of the different food chains.
β€’ Identify three different types of microorganisms and where you can locate them.
β€’ Provide one example of each type of ecological relationships inside your ecosystem-mutualism,
commensalism, parasitism, predator vs prey, and competition (should be five examples total).
Step 4: Identify at least 2 types of BCM cycles (Biogeochemical Cycles) (10 points)
β€’ Identify at least 1 gaseous BCM cycle
β€’ Identify at least 1 sedimentary BCM cycle
Step 5: The place of your Ecosystem (20 points)
β€’ Identify 3 ways in which your ecosystems benefit the world or its surroundings
β€’ Identify 3 ways your ecosystem is being threatened or harmed
Format: Power Point or Prezi (5 points)
