Always wear goggles. Chemical splash goggles should be worn any time you are working with open flame, chemicals, or glassware

Wear appropriate clothing. Baggy clothes and long sleeves can be dangerous when working with chemicals, glassware, or an open flame. Some labs may require a lab coat.

Tie back long, loose hair. Long hair can get into chemicals or into an open flame.

Never taste anything in the lab unless told to do so. Do not taste to identify unless told by teacher. Even if you know it is water in a beaker, the beaker is dirty

Do not apply makeup in class. Chemicals can get into makeup

Distracted from lab. Do not eat or drink in lab

Chemicals can get into food. Spilling may ruin lab.

Wash your hands after lab is complete. Wash with soap and water even if you have gloves on. Use sinks in classroom.

Do not smell chemicals directly. Place chemical in container, hold it at arms length and wave hand over liquid to fan the fumes toward you.

Never remove lab materials from classroom.

Follow all lab procedures. Don't skip any steps and don't add extra steps. If you are unsure ask the teacher.

Never do extra experiments when finished with lab. Only do the lab that is assigned.

Always work in group. Never work alone. Must work in group whether you are friends or not. Do not go ahead of your group.

Stay at lab station. no wandering around room to visit other groups.

Know how to use lab equipment and use properly. lab equipment is not a toy. equipment is expensive and hard to replace.

keep equipment away from edges of counter top too close to the edge and it may fall and break.

No adult and you cannot be in the room. Wait patiently in the hall

No horseplay or pranks in the lab. may lead to serious injury.

clean up spills immediately, even water can be dangerous. depending on the substance you or the teacher will clean it up.

keep lab area clean. cluttered tables and aisles may lead to injury or broken equipment.

Report unsafe conditions or accidents to teacher immediately

do not try to fix broken equipment or give first aide on your own.

Know where all lab safety equipment is located.
