Why does zn+2 ion gains 2 electron during electroplating on steel ? Zn is a metal and metals don't gain electrons , and zn+2 is stable why will it gain 2 electrons?

but by only seeing the configuration we cannot say about its reactivity because we don't know if its configuration after excitation or by addition of electrons.
