In ammonia (NH₃) when nitrogen react with hydrogen it gain three electrons thus three atoms of hydrogen combine with one atom of ammonia because one hydrogen atom can share only one electron. Covalent bond is formed between nitrogen and hydrogen and new substance formed is called ammonia.
