In this unit, we discuss the Haber process which produces ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen in the air. This process led to advances in agricultural fertilizer and food production but also led to advances in explosives. Often, advances in science can have a mix of positive and negative outcomes. Thinking about the Haber process, and Chemistry as a science, how do you reconcile the effort to advance science with the potentially negative outcomes of such advances? Can you think of another example with positive and negative impacts and bring that to the discussion?
