A student was trying to determine the identity of an unknown compound. The melting point of the compound was 117-118 oC. The student narrowed the possible compounds down to the following: acetanilide 113-115 oC fluorene 114-116 oC mandelic acid 120-122 oC Explain in detail how the student can determine the identity of their unknown. b) A second student doing the same experiment as above, found that their melting point was 100-108 oC.
