Jarvis is conducting an experiment to determine the amount of magnesium hydroxide that will precipitate out of an aqueous solution of 1 quart of water, 1 teaspoon of epsom salt, and 2 teaspoons of ammonia. Both of the compounds will dissolve in water.

Ammonia contains ammonium hydroxide, and epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. Mixing ammonia and epsom salt causes a reaction which produces magnesium hydroxide as one of the products. The magnesium hydroxide is a white substance that is insoluble in water. Within a few minutes, a white precipitate (magnesium hydroxide) will settle to the bottom of the jar.

Jarvis ran the experiment nine different times and recorded his measurements below.
Trial Salt
1 50.4 g
2 46.7 g
3 44.7 g
4 46.7 g
5 42 g
6 41 g
7 45.7 g
8 51.5 g
9 39.9 g
What is the median amount of precipitate from the experiment?
