While washing his hands before the client consultation with Chloe, Jayden dropped some water onto the countertop. When he came back later to wipe it up, it has evaporated. What happened to the drops of water?

The "drops of water" are actually made up of water molecules. Under heat, they change their phase from liquid to gas. This means that the water molecules move faster. Such movement allows the molecules to escape into the atmosphere as gas. Such gaseous state of water is called "water vapor" (transparent in color).

The client consultation must have taken time that the drops of water evaporated when Jayden came back.

Aside from evaporation, water vapor may also be produced through the process called "sublimation." This happens when ice directly turns into gas without becoming a liquid.

What happened to the drops of water is ; some of the water droplets was  absorbed by the countertop while some evaporated ( change of state )

Substances exist in three different states ( solid, liquid and gaseous ) , a water droplet is in liquid form and cannot evaporate into the atmosphere without first changing its state from liquid to gaseous.  

Therefore the exposure of the water droplet to the atmosphere will lead to some of water droplets changing from liquid into gas by evaporation while some of the remaining water droplets will be absorbed by the countertop.

Hence we can conclude that What happened to the drops of water is that some of the water droplets was  absorbed by the countertop while some evaporated ( change of state )
