By definition, a chemical element is the most basic form building matter: compounds, such as molecular or ionic compounds that consist of different types of atoms. Each individual atom has its elemental representation in the periodic table.

Elements cannot be changed into any other substances, as they are fundamental species which when combined with other elements produce compounds. Besides, some elements can produce substances that already exist on their own without combining with other elements.

For example, element aluminum (Al) exists as a metal on its own in our world normally. In contrast, elements like oxygen or fluorine are too reactive atoms to exist in their elemental forms, so they form diatomic gases, and , those aren't elements anymore but molecules instead formed from oxygen and fluorine atoms represented by the elements of oxygen (O) and fluorine (F).
