Transition metals can exhibit varying oxidation states in varying compounds, due to the availability of both the ns electrons and the (n-1)d electrons as valence electrons. for example, mn can have oxidation states of 7 (like in kmno4) or 2 (like in mno) or 4 (like in mno2), etc.. but since mn can’t have an oxidation number higher than its number of valence electrons (7), it could not be in a compound such as mno4. based on knowledge of the electronic configuration of titanium, state which of the following compounds of titanium is unlikely to exist.
