cellular respiration is actually a oxidation reaction, where the food in the presence of oxygen gets oxidized and energy is released, this energy is stored in the form of ATP .

Cellular respiration is  a set of processes that convert biochemical energy from glucose into an energy molecule that is stored for later use. In this process, when you consume food one molecule of glucose is turned into about 38 molecules of ATP. Well, even though the chemical energy in glucose is being converted to the cellular energy in ATP, the nutrition remains the same. Energy is neither created nor destroyed. Cellular respiration begins in a cell's cytoplasm, where the glucose molecule is initially broken down. The rest of the process mostly happens in the mitochondria, a-k-a the power house of a cell.This is important because during cellular respiration, lots of chemical reactions are happening in the inner membrane to convert glucose into ATP. So your cells already used the glucose from the food you consume and made some ATP, but the rest of the food is basically useless to your body. And as an efficient machine, your body will eliminate it in a concise and timely manner.
